AD Replication Status Tool killed

Once again our beloved Microsoft Company took care of us sysadmins to not get bored around Christmas. If you have tried to run the Active Directory Replication Status Tool (ADREPLSTATUS) recently you could have noticed that it simply stopped working with the nasty error pop-up:

"The License has expired"

Note the capital letter L! Not ANY license. THE (ultimate) License. Shenanigans!

The problem hides within the license.conf file where – BEHOLD – Feature Expiration="2012-12-08T21:39:37.7614384-08:00" Name="CoreEngine"/>, etc. can be found. The problem is – the file is signed, it wouldn’t do you any good to change the DateTime values there. I am quite certain I didn’t agree upon any expiration when installing…

And since on the official resource page

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/12707.active-directory-replication-status-tool-adreplstatus-resources-page.aspx

you CANNOT leave a comment (and, no, there is NO new version as of 12/09/2012) I decided to post this problem here, probably some of you, dear colleagues, has better connections to the bastion of nitwits there. Until then feel free to brush up your REPADMIN and DCDIAG command line memory.

  1. Nope.
Nirmal, it looks promising although not very intuitive. Visitors can judge for themselves. On the other side I like the profundity shown on the screenshots. May I speculate that this is more like a tool for PFEs/MVPs?

  2. Hi,
Not really it has been designed specifically for MVPs/PFEs but for experienced AD Administrators.

Please let me know if you would like to see any changes or any feedback is much appreciated!

I have just finished fixing a few bugs reported by the users.

    Thanks!

    1. Hi Nirmal,

I just stumbled across your post. The Dynamics tools look great but I think there is a problem with the website as all of the links just take me to the same default index page. I tried submitting a request but that didn’t work either. Is there a download available for the AD replication troubleshooter?

      Thanks heaps!
      Ben Loveday

      1. Hi Ben – I’m in process of publishing all of them by month end.

Will leave a reply here once they are available!

        Thank You,

      Ø Find Orphaned Domain Controllers
Ø Easily identify Domain Controllers in Replication Errors
Ø Save results for later use
Ø Run AD Discovery to collect DCs automatically.
Ø Search Domain Controllers in Object Tree
      Ø Easy navigation
Ø Shows error message for Naming Context
      Ø Legends
      Ø Easy navigation

And “Dynamic AD Replication Troubleshooter” which can actually be used to troubleshoot the issues.

I request everyone to check out the first one at http://www.Dynamic-SpotAction.com. Your feedback will heard and incorporated for sure!

      Thank You,
      Nirmal
